Franz' screencast scenarii
We'll be doing a few screencasts, and here are the scenarii we're planning.
Screencast #1: the very basics
- Explain what is appleseed, in a few words.
- Show where to download a package for a given platform.
- Install appleseed on your computer.
- Give an overview of what's in the package.
- Start appleseed.
Screencast #2: the UI
- Start appleseed, explain briefly how the UI is organized.
- Load a sample scene (one provided in the package).
- Start interactive rendering, navigate in the scene, explain the controls.
- Stop interactive rendering.
- Start final frame rendering, explain the respective purpose of each mode.
- Show how to edit the project file to change the number of samples for final frame mode. Bitch about this setting not being exposed in the UI yet.
- Save the rendered frame to disk.
Screencast #3: creating a scene
- Start appleseed.
- Import some meshes (use some provided in the package?).
- Show how the meshes have appeared in the project explorer, explain the difference between objects and object instances. Bitch about something.
- Render the scene and explains why it's all pink.
- Use and explain the different diagnostic modes. Bitch about the Depth mode giving unexpected results, although they are actually correct.
- Import some textures (again, from the package?) and show them in the project explorer.
- Create a few basic materials, bitch a lot about the UI being totally cumbersome at this point.
- Apply the materials, show how surfaces have two sides that can be shaded independently.
- Show that pink outlines will appear if rounded surfaces with shading normals don't have a back material.
Screencast #4: more advanced stuff
- Show how to change the number of rendering threads to reduce the load of the machine and help save the planet.
- Explain the concept of render layers.
- Load a sample scene, assign a few render layers, render in final frame mode.
- Save the render layers to disk, and show how you can composite them to recreate the final image.
- Show how you can turn off lights and change lights color using render layers.
Screencast #5: Mayaseed?
This is up to Jon to decide I think.
